Finding Yourself Again: Vulnerability and Midlife Dating with Susannah Ludwig

I want to tell you about a conversation I had recently that I haven’t been able to stop thinking about.

My guest was Susannah Ludwig — a resilience and relationship coach who spent years as an Academy Award-nominated film producer before her own divorce sent her life in a completely different direction. She now runs a monthly divorce support group and coaches women through exactly the stage so many of you are in right now: the in-between.

You know the one. You’re not who you were in the marriage anymore, but you haven’t quite figured out who’s next either. Susannah calls it finding yourself in the in-between, and something she said stuck with me: the passions and parts of yourself you set aside for years don’t disappear. They’re just waiting for you to come back for them.

We also got into what women actually say they need after divorce, versus what they actually need — and the gap between those two things might surprise you.

But the part of this conversation I think you need most is what Susannah shared about her own dating journey. She went on 60 dates. Sixty. And instead of treating it as 60 individual referendums on her worth, she reframed it as something closer to a human study — data, not verdicts. That shift alone is worth listening to this episode for.

We talked about why vulnerability isn’t the risk in dating but the requirement, how to trust your own judgment again after it’s been badly burned, what it actually takes to rebuild self-worth after infidelity, the real difference between therapy and coaching, and why dating as a divorced parent can genuinely be fun.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re supposed to have this all figured out by now — your identity, your confidence, your judgment, your readiness — this episode is a good reminder that none of that arrives all at once. It comes back to you in pieces, usually while you’re busy living your life rather than waiting to feel ready.

You can listen to the full episode on Spotify, Apple, YouTube, or wherever you get your podcasts.

And if you’re in the thick of your own in-between right now, that’s exactly what we work on together — here’s how that looks.
