“Online dating sucks. I’m never going to meet someone.”
How many times have you said those words… at least to yourself? I know from my own experience, I had that thought every few months while I was online dating.
But what if that next person you go out with is “your person?” What if the next person is your soulmate? I kept going because I knew in my heart I would meet the right person eventually. And I’ll say it 1,000 times: they may come in a different package than you were expecting.
I’m going to share the story of one of my clients, Sonia. She is in her mid-30’s and came to me (virtually, as she lives in London) in 2019 after several months of unsuccessful online dating. We got her profile looking awesome through some coaching (and coaxing!).
Soon after, Sonia was messaging back and forth with a guy she had matched with while on a trip to Sydney. They developed a long distance relationship, and before long he decided to move to London to live with her. Cut to a year and a half later and they are now expecting their first child! Sonia is over-the-moon happy. We spoke the other day and she said she credits this happiness to some of my advice, which is: don’t rule people out, even based on things like location. You never know what life will bring and how things like that can change overnight.
If we limit ourselves based on past biases and experiences or on things that seem “important”, we may be missing out on some great person who is perfect for us.
