Thinking about using matchmaking companies?
Feeling annoyed with online dating?
Does this sound like you?
“People just keep wanting to message back and forth and not make an actual date!!!”
“I am not matching with anyone I would really want to go out with”
“I don’t know if my profile is even good. It doesn’t seem to be getting the traction I would like”
Because of online dating burnout (nope it’s not just you!), matchmaking companies have been gaining in popularity—and that’s great! But using a matchmaker can be prohibitively expensive, so I wanted to share some actionable steps you can try to up your dating game before going that route.
Here are 5 things to try before dropping your $$$ on matchmaking companies.
1. Swap the Swipe before using matchmaking companies
I LOVE recommending this to people because it really works. We can get stuck in a pattern of going after the same kinds of people who we think are our “type”… but who maybe haven’t proven to be the most reliable partners.
So grab a friend and Swap the Swipe. Give a trusted friend your dating app for a full 30 minutes for free rein of swiping and messaging.
And here’s the most important part: go on a date with someone your friend finds.
2. Try a new app before using matchmaking companies
Each dating app can have certain communities or types of people who gravitate towards it. So if one isn’t working for you, change it up!
Take my Which App Is For You quiz to see which of the 9 top dating apps are best for you, and then read the stats on that app.
My bonus challenge to you: shake up HOW you match with people by trying an app that’s newer on the market. Here are my absolute favorites to choose from.
3. Update your profile before using matchmaking companies
The single biggest obstacle to getting matches and dates is, of course, what’s on your profile. But it’s hard to look objectively at your own profile and identify what needs to change.
My advice? Get some outside, objective help. And I’m probably biased, but your best bet is to work with your truly!

4. Upgrade one of your dating apps before using matchmaking companies
Some dating apps really are worth paying for, and really will increase your number of matches. Which ones? I’ve got you covered.
Check out my blog on which ones to pay for.
5. Ask someone out before using matchmaking companies
Does this one seem obvious? Maybe to some of you… but to most, it’s not! So many of my clients languish in the chatting-on-apps phase because they’re scared to take the next step and actually ask someone out.
So I challenge you: ask out 2 people this month. Just getting to that date makes all the difference 🙂
We all find ourselves in dating app ruts from time to time. I hope you find success in trying out these options, but don’t forget—it’s okay (and can be rejuvenating!) to take a dating app break, too!
Sometimes a 1-2 week detox is all you need to get back on them with 10x the energy and motivation. You got this!
