Update Your Look, Update Your Profile

September is one of the biggest months of the year on the dating apps. Everyone comes back from summer, settles into their fall routine, and decides it’s time to actually try again. Which means more eyes on your profile right when your photos might be feeling a little tired.

So, with enough time before September to make some thoughtful profile changes, I want to talk about something that comes up with almost every client I work with: your style changes, and your profile should change right along with it.

A style refresh does more than just give you new photos.

When you clear out what’s not working anymore and bring in a few pieces that actually feel like you today, something shifts. You feel better getting dressed in the morning. You feel more like yourself on dates. And honestly, you’ll probably enjoy being on the apps more too, instead of dreading another scroll with photos that don’t quite match how you see yourself these days.

That’s really the whole idea behind my Closet Cleanse + Style Guide eBook. After almost 20 years as a fashion stylist and editor, I put together a step by step guide to help you purge what’s not working, fill in the gaps, and land on a look that’s actually true to you. Not a trend, not some fantasy version of your life, just what makes you feel confident when you catch your reflection. Learn more about it here.

One small update that makes a bigger difference than you’d expect: your eyewear.

If there’s one thing that can quickly age a profile, it’s outdated glasses. It’s the first thing I look at with a new client, and it’s also the thing people get the most stubborn about. “Who cares what my glasses look like?” Meanwhile, we just went shopping together for an entire new wardrobe, but new frames somehow feel like a step too far.

Let me tell you: people notice, and it’s worth it.

If you haven’t bought glasses in the last three or four years, there’s a good chance you’re wearing a dated frame without even realizing it. And if you’re building a new look for a new chapter, your eyewear needs to be part of that.

The good news is it doesn’t have to be an expensive project. Companies like Warby Parker and Look Optic make it easy to try frames at home before you commit to anything. Order a handful, take photos of yourself in each one, and get a friend’s honest opinion. Throw your current glasses into that same round of photos and ask yourself: would I buy these today?

Small update, real impact on how fresh your whole profile feels. Take a look:

And if you’re ready for the bigger version of this, a full closet clear-out and style reset, that’s what the Closet Cleanse + Style Guide is built for.

Happy dating!
