Let’s talk about sex!

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner… so let’s talk about sex!

This week, I spent 45 minutes talking alllll about sex with Dr. Saida Desilets and Aaron Michael MA, psychosexual facilitators who cofounded the Embodied Love University.

Embodied Love University is a global platform dedicated to enhancing sex and intimacy for people of all ages, backgrounds, and relationship types (meaning they work with singles just as much as they work with couples!).

You guys, I cannot even begin to tell you how much I learned from this interview.

Here’s something: did you know that low libido and low desire are not the same thing, and they need to be worked on in different ways?

For women, we constantly receive a narrative that our hormones change when we go through menopause, and that if we’re not as interested in sex after menopause, it’s because we have a low libido.

(Men, this also happens to you with andropause — it’s just less culturally talked about!)

Many women try to counteract that by taking hormones, but then shrug and think “I guess I just don’t have much of a libido anymore” when the hormones don’t immediately make them interested in sex again.

But what these women are actually experiencing is low desire — which basically boils down to boredom. The same old sexual repertoire isn’t exciting anymore, even though it used to work. Women need to change the script from the exact same kind of sex they’re used to having in order for desire to be reborn. Only then can desire and libido work in tandem to reignite your sex life.

I could go on and on about this interview — for example, did you know there are 4 main factors affecting orgasm, and that it is possible to influence each of those factors, no matter your age? — but since Dr. Saida and Aaron can speak to all of this much more articulately than I can, I’ll let them do the talking.

So please, go do yourself a favor and listen to this episode on SpotifyAppleYouTube, or wherever you get your podcasts.

And I know the episode will leave you wanting more… so I encourage you to explore their course offerings on the Embodied Love University website.
