After an 8 year hiatus, how Kate Anthony met the love of her life

You may know Kate Anthony independently as the founder of Divorce Survival Guide. She’s a divorce coach and has the #1 divorce podcast in the world. But turns out even if you’re a divorce coach, you can still get burned out by dating apps! Kate did a lot of online dating many years ago, then took a long break (8 years!) because she was so frustrated by the apps.
After she interviewed both me and with Jennie Young of Burned Haystack about our dating methods, though, she decided to jump back in. And then she met the man of her dreams on Hinge.
I want to point out that Kate had a FANTASTIC profile. She had awesome photos that told a real story about her and who she is. Her prompts could not have been better (in fact, I would love to use them as examples for what makes an app prompt stand out). But she was still experiencing dating app frustration. What Kate needed was some strategy and also… to increase her distance.
You heard me right. Kate met Ethan, who lived 2 hours away. Kate, like many of us, thought “why would I drive 2 hours to date someone?” The answer is: wouldn’t you drive 5 (or even 10 hours!) if it turned out to be the person of your dreams?? Sure, you don’t know whether that person will or won’t become your dream partner. But as long as you’re being selective and vetting them with a phone call first, isn’t it worth the risk of a long drive if it turns out to be the one?
My point is, you can have perfect photos, a great bio, and still experience not-so-great matches and dates. But you add in some strategy along with setting all of your preferences correctly, and that’s where you get to the good stuff.
